Simple process here - take the new downpipe and
set it on the floor. Take the baby sledge or
whatever and hit it until it is 6 inches by 2
inches. This will make it possible to put the
new downpipe in the stock cavity without having
to dimple the firewall.

-Howdy All!
-
-I'm helping a friend install his Hypermax 3in
turbo
-downpipe, and while the reciprocating saw made
-short work of the stock downpipe, we're left
-scratching our heads as to how to gain enough
-clearance to install the new pipe.
-
-The directions note to "dimple" the firewall,
but
-the firewall seems pretty sturdy and there's not
-enough room back there (or from underneath) to
-simply "whack" at it with a hammer or baby
sledge.
-
-So, the question is, to those who have installed
-new discharge pipes, how did you gain enough
-clearance?
-
-BTW, if someone answers that they dropped the
-tranny a bit, please provide the details for the
5-
-speed as neither of us has a service manual
-(although we've got the jack & tools to do it)
and
-there are more than a few bolts holding that
rear
-tranny support up there. It's hard to tell
which
-ones to loosen to simply drop the tranny a
little.
-
-Anyway, thanx for the help.
-
-Best Regards,
-Jay
