[Thread Backward] Re: Banks Power ProductsMsg # 5142 of 8004 on Powerstroke Diesel Conference (1)To: Dave, From: Jason Time: Wednesday 01-28-98, 11:19 am I talked with Gale Banks again last night and those were pretty much his exact words too. He says they have three people that handle customer service which includes helping with warranty claims with dealers. He said all their kits are tested to the extreme to see what it would take to actually hurt the engines and drivetrain. They know what the limits are and do not exceed them. We also talked about power chips, downpipes, etc. The reason they only sell full kits is because of the EGT problem when just adding a chip. In the tests they've done, adding a chip with no other modifications significantly increases the exhaust gas temperature. Some chips in their tests hit 1350 degrees fairly quickly and were still rising when they shut the engine down. Navistar's cutoff for exhaust temp is 1400 degrees. Any more than that (or long periods at that limit) significantly increase engine wear. Their kits are engineered to not exceed 1300 degrees. Their testing ground is the long grade at Las Vegas (I don't know the area, but I'm sure some of you do).
