-Mine was on when I received it from the factory. I
-made the mistake of assuming that it was a faulty
-light. It kept going on and off for the next
-month. One saturday morning, my wife and I loaded
-up the truck to go on our vacation. We got in and
-I cranked, and cranked, and cranked... Needless to
-say, it never turned over. I had to get it towed
-to the nearest ford dealer. (so much for the
-vacation.) They said that the water in the
-separator shorted out the heating element and blew
-a fuse. Something about corrosion. Anyway they
-had to order a new furel filter/heater housing.
-Worked great after that, but didn't do much for my
-vacation. I'll have to send jason pictures of my
-truck being towed away on a flatbed. I guess at
-that point she was a trailer queen :-)
-
-drain that water, or don't go on vacation.

Unlike gasoline, diesel fuel just flat will not
dissolve ANY water and the tight tolerances in
injectors won't tolerate the very low viscosity of
water, so then the engine just won't run. No
diesel of any make will tolerate water in the fuel.
For some reason, the fuel retailers here in
Central Indiana seem determined to sell us Platte
River water (too thick to drink, too thin to plow)
in our fuel, but you can get bad fuel anywhere. I
change the filter in my Racor filter every 12,000
miles, whether it needs it or not.
