Yo Headhunter, You shouldn't sound so insecure
about your Powerstroke. It is definitely a top of
the line truck with plenty of bragging rights. At
70mph, your torque converter is locked up and your
rpms will be the same no matter what the load is.
BTW Lying is spelled lying. no 'e'. I get anywhere
from 10.5 to 17mpg towing my travel trailer and
about 18.5 around town empty. A steep hill or
strong head wind will bog me down at 70mph in O/D
at 1850rpms. I have 49,000 miles on my truck. It
moans between 1800-2000rpms. I've had some TSB work
done. Drive shaft, tranny cooler lines, sleave on
steering shaft, and one shut down due to a fuel
shut off solenoid. People get disappointed with
their rigs because they hear so much BS about how
they don't even know their trailer is behind
them,(they should if they put it there) or how it
will smoke the other brands. The fact is, the
Powerstroke is faster than a Dodge Cummins or Chevy
in it's stock configuration. No secrets or lies
from me. I'm not insecure about my truck. All three
American made trucks are worth bragging about. They
are very different but all good trucks. Jason runs
a top of the line web page. Comparison between
brands is part of technical topics. BS has no
technical value.
Dave, you have a heavier truck now and the EPA has
stricter rules on snap throttle smoke and overall
emissions. I beleave you will find an improvement
with a few more miles and warmer weather. The TST
chip works but if you get one, be aware that Ford
as well as Dodge have tuned down both motors to the
limits of the driveline for warranty and they're
pushing those limits for marketability. Short full
throttle to outrun my Cummins shouldn't hurt
anything but long grades will. In it's stock form,
you should be able to run full throttle all day
without any worry. Get a boost, EGT, and tranny
temp gauge before any modifications. Just my $.02.
