Ray,
If I may quote your reply:
---mean to sound testy, but these are trucks and not
---so foreign made, cramp your ass little itty bitty
---truck. You have a "Man's Truck" and quit
---complaining about the little shit.
so, don't get on me about language. I could regard
the entirety of your response as vulgar, foul, or
whatever, as it totally failed to respond to the
questions posed in my post, and instead was a paean
to how great your truck is, how I shouldn't be
complaining and instead, presumably act like the
owner of a "Man's Truck", etc. My impression is
that your response was substantially devoid of
facts.
I'm very happy for you that you can afford to take
the considerable financial losses associated with
disposing of any truck that fails to meet your
expectations. I myself prefer to hold the
manufacturer up to mine. I value tight unit
tolerances, as loose specs are the primary cause of
all component failures, and am seeking the
experience of others so that I can make some
statistical judgements about where on the curve my
particular vehicle sits, and the breadth of that
curve.
Sincerely,
David

-about a moped, and I'm not in love with my truck...
-it's a truck and nothing more and if it doesn't

--Try reading the damn post before shooting your
--mouth off with your poetic waxings! I'm making
--direct comparisons between vehicles, not saying
--that it should get the same mileage as a moped!
--
--If you're so damned in love with your truck, go
--outside and hump it, and stop wasting everyone's
--time with reading your drivel - I'm here asking
for
--help, not erotica.....
--
--I've driven 5 other Powerstrokes, and the worst of
--those got 18.4, with the others all over 19. And I
--haven't seen much of any seasonal variance in
--mileage on my IDI. Given a conservative median of
--19, that leaves me down by 15%, which is rather
--much for my tastes. Again, this is poored than my
--IDI, which consistently runs upper 16s, with a
high
--of 17.3. I've heard that DI should yield about 20%
--over IDI, so this definitely has my eyebrows
-raised.
--
--To the other person who's responded thus far: I
--can't see snap idle stuff affecting highway
mileage
--and top end power. When did the EPA regs affecting
--diesels last change? I know that something occured
--on 1/1/95, but am not aware of anything more
-recent.

----Folks,
----
----Just picked up a new '97 F350 CC PSD, E4OD, 4x4,
----4.10 gears. Sadly, it seems to both have less
--power
----and get poorer mileage than my '94 F250 SC IDI
----factory turbodiesel (w/ aftermarket turbine
--housing
----& exhaust), 4x4, E4OD, 4.10.
----
----On other PSDs that I've driven, when tromping
-from
----a standing start, you can see the engine rev to
--the
----torque converter's stall speed, and then, over a
----half second or so, feel the boost come on, via
-the
----seat of your pants, with a nice satisfying rush.
----This one is much less distinguished in its
coming
----onto the boost.
----
----I don't hear any kind of rushing air sound, so I
----don't think that the exhaust butterfly is
-sticking
----shut.
----
----At about 175 miles, took it out solo, with an
--empty
----bed, for about 200 miles, out and back, on
-terrain
----that gains elevation (1-2000 feet) fairly
-smoothly
----over the hundred mile radius, starting pretty
-near
----sea level. I got what I consider to be a
-miserable
----16.1 MPG, having filled the tank to the brim
both
----before and after the run.
----
----On some steeper hills around here, it would
-barely
----pull beyond 70 MPH, taking 5-10 seconds to gain
----each additional 1 MPH. My recollection of my IDI
--is
----that it accelerated in that situation at least
----twice as fast.
----
----So, my questions to y'all are: Is this typical
----performance? Anybody else disappointed? Any
----suspicions as to what's up? How much improvement
----can I expect as the engine breaks in, and how
-long
----will that be?
----
----TIA,
----Dave
