[Thread Backward] Re: Happy Story (long)Msg # 5288 of 8004 on Powerstroke Diesel Conference (1)To: Russ, From: James Time: Friday 01-30-98, 03:02 am After approx. 10 months of ownership Dodge bought back my 1995 Dodge/Cummins. I had complained several times on Dodge’s 800 number. (The rig had been in the shop for over 34 days in 9 months for brakes, A/T, transfer case, and other problems) I did talk to a lawyer, but I did not have to sue or go to arbitration. Dodge could have done for me what Ford is doing for you, but instead of offering me a new truck they decided to buy the 1995 from me. I still lost money, they bought it back for the price I paid minus mileage. They did pay for the accessories I had installed on the truck. I sent them copies of my receipts for the accessories. Dodge lost a long time customer on that transaction (three new Dodge trucks from 1989-1995) and Ford has benefited form Chrysler’s loss. I’m very happy to hear of your success with the Ford arbitration board. One of your statements needs repeating. A common problem or symptom does not make the condition normal!!! I took it back to the -dealer and they were unable to fix the noise. I -"lived" with the problem for a month or so then -found a TSB (from alldata.com) that addressed my -problem. With this information I took it to -another dealer and had them try and fix it. They -were much more willing and ended up working on it 3 -more times, the last time installing a exhaust -dampener. Well nothing worked. - -After the 3rd try the dealer told me not to bring -the truck back anymore..? What I said. They told -me I had to live with it. Well them are fightin' -words! I started by calling Ford Customer Service. -They were basically no help. The customer service -rep called the dealership to get their side. Now -the dealer was saying this is normal and they "all -do that". They supposedly tried 2 other trucks on -the lot and they did the same thing. So just -because it is common does not make it "normal". -Ford officially dropped it after that, no new work. - That was early Nov. - -My next step was to send a lemon letter to Ford and -contact the Dispute Settlement Board. The Dispute -settlement board is a "neutral" mediation -resolution board for cases like mine. They agreed -to hear my case. - -To make a long story short (too late for that -already) the dispute settlement board ruled in my -favor (after 3 months of work documenting -everything). My smoking gun was the fact that the -dealer sent a doc to ford saying they have tried -everything to fix my problem and nothing worked. - -The deal I got is that I get a new truck up to the -MSRP(Sticker price) in value of my original. -Basically I trade MSRP of my old one to MSRP of my -new one. If the new one is more then my original I -have to cover the difference. I don't have to pay -anything for mileage (I have 5K on it) because I -had the problem since it was new. - -I guess I will order a new '99 and pay any -difference (selection of '97s getting pretty thin). -It says I have to complete the transaction within -30 days, but I guess ordering a new truck in that -amount of time will satisfy that req (anyone -know?). My questions are what do I do with the -items I added to my truck. I added a tonneau -cover, bed matt, CD Changer/Stereo. Do I get -credit for those? Does anyone know? - -My recommendation to anyone getting the same run -around from the dealer is fight it! Document -everything, stay calm and keep plugging. If anyone -has any questions send me email and I will try and -answer. - -Russ - Replies to this message:
