The Canning Stock -Route involves crossing 900 sand dunes over 1100 -miles. I'm a little worried about heat buildup in -general, especially in the low range planetary -gearset of the transfer case. I wish the transfer -case was an old gear drive cast iron piece. Anyway, -we're supposed to use Mercon type ATF in both trans -and TC. Replacement candidates include 75W-90 -Arctic gear lube (viscosity of ATF at 100C.=7.1 -cSt, AGL=14.6), 0W-30 synthetic arctic motor oil -"Sub-Zero Fluid" 10.5cSt. Any ideas about these -products or others? I'm planning on using 85W-140 -in the diffs (31cSt) and maybe straight 40 in the -engine (70K miles). Right now I have to carry 4 -different fluids as spares: hydraulic oil for the -winches (of course for hydraulics in a pinch -anything will do), ATF, gear oil and motor oil. -Charlie Replies to this message:
