[Thread Backward] Re: Mileage/Power Improvement After BreaMsg # 4985 of 8004 on Powerstroke Diesel Conference (1)To: Dave and all, From: Dave Time: Sunday 01-25-98, 10:25 pm First, thanks for your numbers. Second, I again take exception to your attitude that I have no business caring about mileage, which is a specific objective that I have for the vehicle. My expectation is based on various reviews of the PSD written when it was introduced, where a mileage improvement of 20% over IDI was cited. Third, I did research the topic prior to purchase, which you seem to have not noted in my posts. Of 5 PSDs, none fared worse than 18.4 under this specific test course. Additionally I have extensive experience with an IDI, which the PSD is supposed to better. If in fact mileage improves over breakin by 20% that will bring it into line with my PSD experience, and the published statements regarding DI advantage over IDI. Now, can anybody, rather than telling me what I ought to and oughtn't give a damn about, address the issue raised in my post, i.e. tell me how much improvement they have noted over the course of their breakin, along with the particulars thereof? Jason, I regret as much as anybody, if not more, the unpleasantness that is occuring here, but I will not be disrespected/ bullied/ harassed/ whatever in a public forum and not make rebuttal in the same area. I hope that you agree with me that it is not I who have failed to maintain focus in this. If this forum's purpose is to share our experiences with the PSD, surely the editorializing of these "cool" folk is not contributive thereto. It was about 11 on the tanks before. This is -much better than the 8 mpg the 460 in a 97' SC it -replaced so I don't complain. Hey, I ordered a chip -that is sure to cost me some MPG but if you can't -afford to feed them, then sell them and get a -Metro.(you can get 3 for the cost of a PSD) -Will the MPG go up after the break -in......probably... but say it goes up 20%, that is -still only 3 mpg at best. Some people make some very -outrageous claims on MPG... and I laugh and say -...yea right and santa is real too, must be using -"new math" in the calculation. -The point is ....who cares, you bought it, if you -didn't do the research and knew going in what you -were getting, then SORRY CHARLIE, live with it or -sell it to someone else. -Headhunter....you are too cool to lose from this -page....tell this chump to bite a big one.
