"Parent Bore"

I was looking at the Navistar home page and the
Powerstroke (aka:T444E) is a "Parent Bore",
according to the Navistar web page. I may be the
only one that has this question, but what the heck
does that mean? Also, why are all the other
Navistar engines inline six's, and non "parent
bore". Finally, why the sleeves in the powerstroke
cylinders, the other Navistar engines dont use
them, and neither does cummins. Opps I used the
"C" word.
Thanks to all, this site is a real education for us
first time diesel heads.
