need AIC wire harness
#1581472 - 01/09/04 10:20 PM

Anyone got a spare AIC wire harness? I just got one off ebay and when I got it today it didn't come with the wire harness or the mounting bracket. Anyone got either one I'd be interested in it. Thanks.

Good Luck on the bracket How does the Harness come out? I thought it was direct wired into the box?

Wow...and I thought I was the only one! The same thing happened to me Geoff, so I just e-mailed the seller, and he eventually took it off his truck for me. He had to remove a couple of radios (he worked for the fire Dept) to see if the AIC harness was still on his truck, and thankfully it was. He was nice enough to send it to me.

I believe Roy has a link to a company that sells the AIC wiring assembly on its own Geoff. I did have the link, but can't seem to find it, but I'm sure Roy could get it for you.

Goeff,

Here is the Ford number for the harness XC3Z-14A411-AA. I went through the same thing and had the company that makes the AIC, get me the number. Dealers will tell you it's not a seperate item, but this is the right number. It ran around $45.00.

Wow that is pretty steep for a short wire harness. But I guess if I got the AIC for $150 that still isn't doing to bad. It is brand new and after looking back at the Ebay add it says it wasn't included. I wish I would have read closer. So I would imagine that he doesn't have the harness still in his truck. I inspected it and there is no threads cut in the mounting holes in the back and it doesn't look like there are any marks on the connector pins either so I do think it is new. I already asked Ford about the bracket and he told me it was only sold with the kit. And the complete kit was full retail at $1100 so I still think I'm makeing out pretty good here. I got some templates for the bracket so I will make them if I have to but I would rather just buy them so they look perfect. I'm just really picky that way. I guess I can just make them and powdercoat them and they should look pretty good! I'll call and see if Ford can get that part number tomorrow. Thanks a bunch guys!

Thanks Dale! Hopefully Roy will come along soon with the link.

Geoff, the part # listed above is the same as the # I have. It is made by a company called the Sturdy Corp.

Here's the info, Contact Sturdy Corp., 1822 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC 28401; (800) 721-3282 or (910) 763-2500; www.sturdycorp.com.

Hope it helps...

Hey Roy,

When I talked to the Sturdy Corp, They gave me the part #,but said that they could not sell them tome direct. They have a contract with Ford that says they can't sell them except to Ford.

Clayton, I can't say I've ever bought one from them, so you may be right. Any chance Ford sells them separately, or did you try that too?
I guess the other option, if you couldn't get one, would be to hard wire it in. You would think you would be able to get one somewhere...

Cheers...

Well I called Ford today and they wanted a bit over $60.00 for it retail. My price was a little lower but not a whole lot. I'll call the other place on Monday and see what they have to say. Thanks again for the number. Do you have any idea if that other place has the mounting brackets as well?

Geoff, No problem. I think the brackets are a Ford only item, and they aren't sold separately. I am using a modded S-Duty bracket and actually like the placement of it better than the one for our trucks. Shouldn't be too hard for an ace fabricator like you to whip one up!!

Cheers...

Ya I have no doubt that I can make one. I just like haveing factory Ford parts where ever I can. I've got some templates now for the stock one so I'll probably use them and maybe modify them a little to make it fit where and how I want it. Thanks again!

Yeah, Ford is proud of that cable! BTW, it is about 3 foot long, so you are gonna have to coil the rest under the dash! I made my own bracket so it could mount under my CB. You are just a week late, I just gave my Ford bracket to another member!

Yep I called them and they said they can only sell it to Ford. So I called and ordered it from Ford this morning. Thanks guys for all your help. Now just for that pesky bracket!

Well I got the wire harness today and it doesn't plug into the AIC that I got. The plug on the harness is much bigger and is an 18 pin connector with 10 wires going to it and the AIC has a 6 pin connector that plugs into it. Is there any other part numbers for the wire harness?

Geoff, I was wondering about that. I had two AIC's a while back and the newer kind has way more wires. I have the old style one sitting here and the cable has these part numbers on it F5UF-14A649-AA and 57C-02555. The AIC this cable goes to F5TF-12B640-AB. The manufacture date for this AIC 09-06-95. Hope that helps.

Geoff, I've seen FORD AIC's on Ebay, some with the PTO option, and some don't! I wonder with that being the case, if one has a different plug...thus different wiring harness? Might there be two different part #'s???

The bracket that came on mine...is kind of a two piece deal..not sure if they are all like that or not?
Roy has a way so that he can attach it right behind the transfer case shifter..which is where I want mine anyway.

Geoff, I was like you, in that I didn't watch the auction close enough, and mine said "Comes with everything you see" which DIDN'T include the harness!
I just sent him an e-mail, and he said he'd take a look in his truck to see if it was still there. As I mentioned before he did have to take two different radios that where bolted in place to get at the harness...but at least he was kind enough to look....where he then found it, and shipped it to me for free!

Guess I was just lucky on that one!

I was just looking on ebay and found there was one that had the larger plug that is on the harness that I got. I don't know what the difference is between them though. I'll try the part numbers you showed and see what Ford will come up with. Hopefully they will take the harness back that I just got. So Tom you are saying the one with the small square 6 pin connector is the part numbers you just listed and not the bigger one right?

Thanks guys!

Geoff, yes that number I gave you is for the cable with the six pin connector. The AIC it goes to does not have any PTO provision like the newer ones do. Did you compare the part numbers on the AIC control head themselves to see if they match? If you need any more help let me know. This one is brand new and I still have the original packaging.

Yep that is the same part number as mine but mine was made on 07/08/98. Thanks again for the info.
