Superchip & TSB 99-08-01
#287751 - 02/11/01 09:49 AM

I just had the TSB 99-08-01 done on my '99 F250 PS. This TSB involves replacing a solenoid body and updating the software, to firm up a shift flare in the transmission. My dealer would not do the job until I removed my #1200 Superchip. After the work was completed I tried to re-install the chip to bring the truck back to life and to my surprise it would not even start. I pulled the chip and she fired right up. My dealer is clueless when asked if I have a new ECU code now. Superchip will re-flash my chip if I can supply them with a new code. Anybody know how I can get the new code myself?

Tim, I just had the same thing done to my 99 a couple of weeks ago. The latest code is XLE8. The dealers usually don't know the new 4 digit code but can give you the hex code. Your chip dealer can convert it, my new one was F81F-12A650-BK which translated to XLE8.

We'll at least your dealer was smart enough to tell you to remove it and not give you crap about having it. If your dealer wont give you the new PCM program number or "tear tag" number, I would say it's safe to say you have the XLE8, since it's the latest version. Go with it and see if it works if it doesn't then you need to get the corect code or have your PCM read by Superchips. RICH

The XLE8 program would only be valid if the original PCM code on the truck was XLE4. If the truck started with another code, the newer version of that specific code would need to be determined. If your dealer can't give you the hex code or "tear-tag" code you will need to find someone that has a Ford scanner to get the number for you. I found a local authorized Ford service vendor that services PSD motor homes that had a scanner. He also sells chips and exhaust systems too

My dealer was originally clueless about this code. I talked to their diesel mechanic and he had never heard of this terminalogy. The next time I took the truck into the shop, the diesel mechanic came out and told me he did some homework and found all the hex codes available and had a printout available for him to reference There is hope yet
