#1029225 - 01/23/03 08:35 PM

96,000 on the original pads getting kinda low....Should I go back with OEM pads or is there a cheaper substitute any of you have tried?

I am sure Ford will rape me on pads.

Applied Rotor Technology ships its rotors with Performance Friction pads.

Haven't put mine on yet, but everyone who gets them seems to like them.

Just installed the performance friction pads last week, and I am very pleased with them. I think they are better than the OEMs.

You can get them at Autozone...with a lifetime warranty...if they ever wear down...they will give you new ones.

Many aftermarket brake pad's have a tendancy to squeak, just think you wont have to worry about brake pad's again for 96,000 more miles if you go factory.

96,000 on original pads, wow! how did you do that? Are you packing a chute for those fast stops or did your truck come with a brake delete option. I only got 32,000 on my original pads. Replaced them with Raybestos sever duty pads, life time warranty.I have used these before and have had good results with them.I know these will not last for ever but I did see a big improvement on my 94 dodge cummins and it ate brakes every 13to 14,000.These pads brought me up in the 35to 37 range and I did not have to buy another pad.I know this pad is produced under a few names. Carquest, auto zone, and I think napa.

I've got 89,000 on factory pads. They still look good but I probably need to start looking. With this life, I will probably goe OEM again!

WENT WITH PERFORMANCE FRICTION PADS AND ROTORS AT 20,000. ORIGINAL PADS AND ROTORS WERE SHOT. REPLACED ALL PADS (4 WHEELS) AND THE ROTORS UP FRONT MYSELF FOR $200.00 LESS THAN WHAT FORD WANTED FOR NEW PADS AND REPLACEMENT....

I agree with JMS, Raybestos severe duty, I got mine at NAPA, I have them in 2 trucks, the one below in my sig. and a 96 Ram gasser, that was a pad eater, rotor warper until I went with the NAPA severe duty.
Around $70 at the time.

YEP thousands of them from $ $4.99 on up and most are junk IMO

any of you have tried?

Yep that’s how I know

I am sure Ford will rape me on pads.

Maybe you could explain me your meaning of rape

Fact Factory friction in engineered for you specfic vehicle. No one does more engineering to get the friction material correct for your vehicle than OEM

The materials used by the OEM are best suited for your vehicle. A lot is taken into consideration when doing so. Proper Heat dissipation noise, longevity.

Some aftermarket pad are very aggressive and can be hard on your other brake components like your rotors for instance. The brake friction used is engineered to remove a specific portion of the heat created from the friction when stopping. If this is incorrect you will be chasing the brake pulse problems till your blue in the face.
Fact , some play the rotor game not having a clue that the problem may be in the friction material used in the aftermarket brake pads they installed.

96k those are good numbers is their better IMO NO.

Cheaper YEP!......Better

But what the hey, do your thing, that’s what it’s all about, as is this network. The PSD will run 300-400k miles like a walk in the park but many here try to make it better.

Sounds like OEM is the way to go if you get 86,000 to 90,000 on a set of pads. You can get cheaper but 90K on a set of pads? Why use anything else?
