Cackle and Idle Knock Links

During my background research for THIS , I went back in the archives in the engine and drivetrain for information and after reviewing the titles of the close to 9000 threads I made up a reference list for my use of those that I found interesting and thought for those interested I would list them with titles and links. I tried to stay away from some of the "hot button" threads which you can find around the end of 2000 and early 2001, but did have to include a couple where I saw what I felt was some technically interesting information. Also, I only included the two basic threads from the current engine and drivetrain forum since things can change. I'm sure I missed some and maybe a lot, but I found a lot of this interesting reading from a background prospective. So if your interested get a pot of coffee (a cup won't be enough) and browse by simply clicking on what you find interesting .

beantown,
TKS, I haven't read every single post, but did find it enlightening in view of where we all are at right now re this idle knock and cackle phenomenon. Even way back in one of these threads the Fuel Perperator was discussed . As humans, we often forget how collectively we got to where we are today. As I said my main purpose was to review the info and see if I could find any long lost wav files for my current work and did this more for my reference and after I starting reviewing it decided others may find it useful. I understand a lot of history back in 99 was lost due to a system problem so even this is not the whole history.

Bump for very interesting reading. Thanks Larry for bringing these threads back into light. The Kim Lux saga circa 8/00 to early 01 is particularly interesting. I guess he was banned from this site?
Other things that caught my attention was the discussion about the boiling temp of diesel fuel (165F) and how it can be increased with higher fuel pressure. It was theorized that fuel was boiling in the rails and contributing to cackle. By increasing the fuel pressure you can raise the boiling point. Also I see reworking the fuel lines in the head is not exactly a new idea, although TTs seems the most thought out solution.

Bugs66,
I purposely left out quite a few threads between the period you mentioned since they were not technically on topic and the purpose of my post was not to stir up old wounds (for a lack of better words) in some of the more emotional threads so I did play the role of censor in some cases (I would guess there were between 5 and 10 of these that I left out. I did lose some technical info when I did not include them and had to add a few with these at times emotional posts to get interesting techinal discussions in- it was a tradeoff that I had to make. You can't as I remember do a view members posts for lux, but if you do that for some of the early heavy hitters you can fairly easily get to them if your interested in that side of the issue. I was more interested in the technical information than info on "the kit". I found the posts up to around 11/00 the most interesting and technically informative.

Larry,
Reading some of those old post brought back a bunch of names that we no longer hear from. And I would REALLY like to hear from some of them on the stuff that is being done currently.
Anyone heard from Coach Davis?
See ya,
Shane

Since I use this post to often look at old idle knock and cackle threads, below is the first post in this thread with corrected links for the new site name:

Larry- Thank, you for the resounding effort (no pun intended). I'm sure we can all cut you some slack for any censorship that may have occurred.
