#840215 - 08/29/02 04:11 AM

Im ready to change my coolant. I know there has been a lot of discussion regarding brands of coolants. What is the difinative word on which brands of coolant are ok to use in the Power stroke? I need the final word...

Assuming "green" coolant came from the factory:

At your International Truck dealer, buy Fleetrite antifreeze - without any water or SCA added. Note that Fleetrite makes more than one variety of coolant, so get the one that is pure antifreeze, then add your own DCA4 or FW-16 and water.

Alternative brands of low-silicate antifreeze for your PSD include Quaker State and Zerex. I've seen both of those at various and sundry auto parts stores.

Do not use Prestone in the yellow bottle, or any type of extended life coolant (ELC) or long-life antifreeze. Do not use any antifreeze that is not green. And if you find a "complete" antifreeze that includes supplemental coolant additive (SCA), do not buy it unless it states loud and clear that the SCA is DCA4 and nothing else. "Compatible" with DCA4 won't do - that's usually the Penray company trying to sell you a different chemical.

And that's the final word.
