Who has this system and what should I look for - or look out for
I like the cowl air inlet
I would like to install 3 - 4 guages on the A pillar- anyone have info
and where to get the gauges- I like Isspro
The system from Hypermax comes with exhauset - YES?
Thanks :

I have a hypermax on my truck, i like it alot but i got it from someone, never installed still in box. Mine did not come with an exhaust system, i believe it was optional. The only problem i've had with mine is when i'm doing alot of low speed manuevers, especially going down dirt roads and constantly getting on the throttle, the collector gaskets started leaking and coming loose, i had to get back under to tighen them up, i eventually put a second lock nut on it, never had a problem since. I've talked to some other people with the hypermax, and they haven't had this problem. When i get my truck back on the road, i think i'll splurge and get the intercooler too. I've never used isspro gauges, i have some autometers. They work fine for me, and they were cheap, got them from a friend who sold his diesel.

I just bought/installed the HM turbo. Paid 1450.00 for the turbo, 200.00 for the HM exhaust system and bought the pyro/boost from Isspro for another 200.00
The install is difficult in that there are about 14 pages of text and only one or two diagrams. I did it by myself and it took a very long day. I could do another one in half the time now that the learning curve has shortened up. I did add a 2" body lift ($90.00) and that eliminated the cutting of the firewall that everyone suffers through on ANY turbo install. I hear its a real b#%^&c to bash/slash/cut the firewall for down pipe clearance.
I cut my drivers side radiator support and added a rectangular 4" HVAC sheetmetal fitting and ran flex duct to the stock air cleaner (on this forum, refered to the Ziggster Ram Air). I bought a PSD intercooler off ebay for 175.00 and will mount this during Christmas vacation.
I'm no expert on the system but have recently done everything you mentioned. I can email you some pics and give a few pointers if you end up doing the HM install.

Lance:
Thanks for the reply:
I have heard of the 2" lift solver- I wonder if I will need to do this I already have to get a 5 gal bucket as a step for my mother when she rides with me.
I have an extra spring in the rear yet - that is the rear
Truck is 4x4 manual hubs with plow and I have to say that I have to fight not to grab the wheel to haul myself in- its pretty high step to get it.
Fotos are always appreciated - now do you have a manual trans or auto?
I know it is hard to say which is better - unless you have owned both - Banks or Hypermax For the Navistar/International - Opinions????
Did you keep your exhaust or go up to a 3.5"?
peace and thanks

I went with the 3.5" Hypermax exhaust and have the 5 sp tranny. The lift kit helps in that it creates more room/distance between the frame/engine and the body.
If you are looking at low end "grunt" I would not recommend the Hypermax. I see very little boost in normal driving and its not until I really get on it when passing or towing my travel trailer that I see good boost numbers. I like this as I feel it keeps the stress on the engine to a minimum as I only push the engine when I really need the power such as passing or towing. I have seen used HM units on ebay for 400-700 and Banks from 500-1000. Might need to buy a few misc parts but it would be a cheaper way to go.

As you can see I have one low end is lacking but the only time I really notice is when I may go out into the sand to get down to the beach. It just will not pick up rpm from a dead stop. You have to get a run and use low range. If you can do it put on a intercooler makes a big improvement.Being that you have a stick street performance is good if your trans shifts good.I also run there exh with the muffler that came with but I nocked out the center plug so it is straigth thru.was running no muffler but out it back this way and noticed no differance.

You can probably get a 2" body lift from www.4wheelparts.com they are a huge place for offroaders and pretty much have anything you would ever need for a 4wd truck. Good luck with the turbo, I love mine, it makes power everywhere which is nice.. Scotty

2" lift came from www.summitracing.com for 90.00. Took a couple hours to install. Biggest problem were the forward most bed bolts as they were round head but not a "carriage" type. I had to weld a nut to the head of the bolt in the bed and have my 6yr hold it while I wrenched under the truck. It looks good and was worth the effort as far as I'm concerned

Its amazing how the kids change. My 11 and 8 yr olds only want to help if they get to drive the - tractor, go cart, houseboat etc. The 6 yr old? He'll do most anything just help old dad out. I guess he will also succomb to the notion that "helping dad" is lame. Just bought 2.5 acres and those kids are going to help with everything come hell or high water!!!!!!!

Just playing devils advocate, but both kits for our trucks on the Summit sight have footnotes that read not for trucks installed with diesel engine.

I installed a Hypermax turbo system and 3.5" exhaust on a '94 IDI van. The intructions were very complete, but they estimated the install time at 5 - 6 hours. The first step was to remove the rocker covers and retorque the head bolts. In a van that alone took 6 hours. And I couldn't swing the wrench on one of the head bolts, so it was left as is. The whole install took me about 30 hours, but I'm not the quickest wrench in the toolbox.
Other than the time to install I was VERY pleased with the system. I installed it when the van had 27,000 miles, and sold the van at 96,000. I didn't have a single problem with the turbo or the drivetrain in that time.

retorque the head bolts
I'd be curious exactly what proceedure you used to do that, since retorquing the bolts accurately isn't really possible once they have been installed and the engine run.

TurboYT, regarding the "not for diesel" note, the person I spoke to a week ago at 4wheelparts says that the note was due to the fan not having adequate clearance with the bottom radiator hose. However, based on the number of folks on this board that have installed the 2" lift, it appears not to be a problem.
