#1763172 - 04/20/04 10:22 PM

Hi everyone, I have a 30 ft.5th wheel and want to pull my 12ft.bumper hitch behind it.With my extended cab and trailer I'll measure 61ft.long.Does anyone know if I can pull that legally in Kansas? We'll be driving down I-29 later in Sept.from Canada and am sure we can do it in the other states along the way.N.D.,S.D.,Iowa,Missouri,and Ks.We want to go to the southeast corner of the state through Kansas City. What if we can't pull two through Ks.Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

Look at this site:

http://www.boatus.com/trailerclub/laws.asp

It has information about all of the state's towing laws.

Two years ago I towed a 21 foot ski boat behind my 27' 5er through kansas to Missouri. I think I was about 76 feet long altogether. I don't remember if I was legal or not, seems like I might have been a foot or two over the limit. Anyway, I remember passing several State Troopers that didn't give me a second glance.

The only problem I had was trying to go too far between re-fueling and then not being able to find a truck stop that was easy to get in and out of.

Good luck,
Shaun

No I don't leave close to there.. I'm located south of Wichita.. But I have been by the place you going several times. My neighbor also has one of those go-cats on a kite... Looks fun. I have not yet talked him into giving me a spin yet. I'm afraid to go up with him, not sure If I could get a kitchen pass to buy one.. Cause one spin would have me getting one I'm sure...

You can see in my pics I double. I had to back up a ways 2 times a fair distance. One time it worked, one time it didn't. Be prepared to pull forward a bunch of times to straighten the train out.

I did get pretty good and backing short distances to unhook the boat when I got into a campground.

I would also recommend a camera on the back of the 5er so you can keep an eye on the boat.

Drop me a PM if you want any more specifics on some of the issues I have run into while double towing.

Good question, but so far I have not had to do that... But I'm sure it will be intertaining to someone once I do...
