Western Diesel Exhaust Brake III

When the heck are these coming out. I ordered one a month ago and they keep telling me next week. I have 2 weeks till I leave on a trip around the country towing a 5th wheel. They sent the chip and the downpipe but the part I really need is the brake. Anyone out there have any idea on the shipping date? I was told last Wed that it would be this past Friday or yesterday. Thanks for the help.

Having seen Western Diesel and the way that they work, they will not release something until it works right. They believe in getting it right the first time and not having to fix things that they have sold. Be patient and you will get the best product that they can produce.
They are nice folks and great to work with and a quality outfit. I have their early exhaust brake and experienced the same angst. But the wait is worth the trouble free long lasting quality product.

I don't doubt that WD will wait to produce a really top notch product. They simply need to be honest with their distributors and customers. I too have been waiting to buy one of these new products. I have heard nothing for 3-4 weeks, but I think the distributor is in the dark as well. The people at this site have helped create this problem for me. With the mods I have now, the truck gets to going so fast when I'm towing that I have to buy something else to get it slowed down! If anybody out there knows what is going on with this product, let us all know.

Morning PSDer's,
Sorry for the delays but as Cybervett65 said we want it correct the first time. The first shipments will start to go out Monday the 18th on both UPS and Fed-EX.

Now, that's great service when the actual "master" of WD peruses the forums to answer your questions!!
I do have one question though, and perhaps some of you haven't seen it, as it's talked about more on the '94 - '97 forums, but many guys now have made up their own exhaust brake using the EBPV (which I think WD uses) for about $20.00 U.S. This is the route I'll be using this spring, but I do have to say the WD exhaust brake is also well made.
I just think I can basically do the same for much less.
Best of luck to you all on your "haulin'" and towing this year!
Dale...

PSD2000,
There is a homemade system floating around on this and many oher sites. Ours locks up the torque converter on deacelleration, and has an optional position for lock up on acceleration as well( keeps the trans fluid cooler when towing on hills etc). As a final bonus we have a two speed idle controller system very similar to the Ford APCM without the digital read out.

You think you waited long. I ordered mine in December. I just got off the phone with Chris and it is on the way. He said they shipped like 100 in a day. I would guess that these are to fill some or all of the backorders on this. I've been told the wait will be worth it,
God Bless America.......

CyberVet,
It looks to me that you have about the same size setup (weight wise) as I do. I find that my PSD does pretty good engine braking. Do you still recommend the WD Brake, or not? Thanks

Ok so I haven't been around here much lately. Someone tell me about the TTB 3 !!!!!!!! I have had my TTB for a year and leave it on 99.9% of the time, with and with out the trailer on. I luv it!!!!!!!!
I LQQked at the WD web site, didn't find anything about a TTB 3 version. -- Marc

Marc,
The TurboBrake III works the same way your TurboBrake does, but has a torque converter lock and an idle controller built in as well. The torque converter lock makes a big difference in braking power. The converter locks anytime the brake is activated and can be switched to lock on accelation as well. The added bonus of the TBIII is the idle controller. This has 2 positions, one for extended idle periods (1700 rpm) and one for PTO operation (2200 rpm). These are also available for manual trans trucks, TurboBrake II, they are equipped with the idle controller but no converter lock-up JS.

THANKS for the info -- hmmmmmm!!!!! maybe I need to sell my AIC !!!!!!! I like the way "Western Diesel" thinks..... I could sell my factory rear window slider also, sell a new unpainted Super Duty Tailgate, new unused Stainless Lund Deflector, dented 5th wheel ventilated tail gate, damaged SWB complete bed, factory muffler and tailpipe.....
