How to: Setting up mIRC for use with TheDieselStop.com
- In your web browser, go to http://www.mirc.com.
- Click on the item that says "Download mIRC".
- It will take you to the page with all the places you can download mIRC. Choose the site
nearest to where you live
- When you click on the link, it will ask you where to save the program. Save it anywhere
you want, but remember where you saved it.
- When it is finished downloading, run the program from where you saved it. It will then
begin installing mIRC to your computer.
- When it is done installing, run mIRC from the start menu.
- It will prompt you for your personal info such as what you want to be called (Nick Name)
and your real name.
- After you are finished there, it will ask you what server you want to. Click on add.
- Type in irc.thedieselstop.com and leave the port alone.
- It should then connect you to the chat server.
- A list of channels will pop up. The main channel that every body talks on will not be
there, so you will have to add it.
- Type #ford-diesel-chat and click on the add button. It will add that channel
to the list. Then click on Join. You will then be in the chat room!
Some common commands in the chat room:
/join channel
This will change you to that channel. The default channel on the server is
#ford-diesel-chat. (You must include the # sign)
/part
This causes you to leave the current channel.
/list
This will provide a list of channels available to you.
/msg person
This will pop a new window up and allow you to privately chat with another person.
/me text
This command sort of provides a way to convey feelings, emotions, and actions. For
example...
/me is tired
will send to the chat room:
* Shawn is tired.
or even better... :)
/me slaps SmokeyWren with a trout!
produces...
Shawn slaps SmokeyWren with a trout!
/whois person
This command will give you basic information about a person in the room.
