I'm sure that someday in the not to distant future these trucks will have to pass some sort of smog test. So tampering with the particulate filter will send your truck off the charts and hence fail the test. Kalifornia will probably lead the charge, they always do!
I think we are headed toward the day when you either run it the way you bought it or pay thru the nose if they catch you modifying it?
