Funny you should mention this mixture- it was one recommended to me by an old Ford diesel mechanic at the dealership I bought my first Excursion at, and I used it religiously in that truck. I used this mixture as well in my VW TDI- I was running free JetA (we sumped the heck out of the tanks daily on the corporate jet fleet I maintained-part of the daily preflights- but there's no lubricity in JetA)
I never had a lick of trouble with that TDI the whole time I owned it-it got around 44mpg. One of the pilots had a TDI and was running the JetA with ATF- he had injector problems in rather short order and went to the mix I was using (after VW raped him on the repairs).
I could tell a BIG difference on the Ex the one or two times I didn't have that mix with me to put in the fuel. I'm using it now on the '02 Ex we just purchased with no problems so far.
