created my own hard to start issue .....

Ok, in the process of trying to fix my original 'hard to start' issue I created a new one.

It started with me trying to figure out why my truck would not start even though I was getting power from the batteries(all in good cond.)glow plugs all in good shape, starter good too. I did the screw driver trick and crossed over the starter solonoid, that did the trick and it started. So I figured that was my issue. Not having a garage I went to schucks bought a new starter solonoid and attempted to install it in the parking lot. Being the moron that I am, I did not label the wires that went to it originally and just took the old one out without thinking, after multiple wiring combination attempts on the new starter solonoid I got it installed. All in all, that was not the issue giving me trouble, I realized it was my 'clutch nuetral switch' was not being pushed when I would depress the clutch to start the truck. So I fixed that, problem solved?

well this morning I went to start my truck and now it cranks over(which it did not do before) but it wont fire up, I get some smoke when I am trying to crank it over. My wait to start light seems to be working, but I am not getting the usual 'click click click' as I am waiting to start my truck. It cranks over but will not start up.

What did I do? I am guessing in the process of installing my starter solonoid I fried something, glow plug relay? any thoughts on what it could be? I am guessing I need to check the condition of my glow plug relay? Sorry I am a little new to IDI and diesels in general.

any help much appreciated.
