Re: 1st Tow with V-10
Well, here is my towing comparison. Current rig(see signature) weighs out at 19500lbs GCVW. Previous rig was a '01 Dodge Ram 3/4 diesel/auto/4.10axle/power chip with a 29' fifth wheel with a GCVW of 16500lbs. So I am weighing about 3000lbs more now than before. The first obvious thing was the mileage difference. The dodge got about 11-12 towing and the Ford is getting less than 8. Usually around 6-7MPG. I try to drive around 65-70MPH as much as possible. The Dodge maintained speeds in the big hills much better than the V10. The V10 however, is more pleasant to drive in that even if you need to put the pedal to the metal to climb some of the higher hills, it just seems to run smoother if that makes any sense. Now I will also say that before I put the power chip on the Cummins, it thought it sucked when it came to climbing any type of hill.
If it wasnt for the mileage thing, I would say I am very happy with both the towing the daily driving of the V10 over the diesel. Now I also know I am comparing a Ford to a Dodge and not one engine to another. I just need to accept the mileage thing and get on with it. I am pretty sure I wouldnt want a 3.73 axle pulling that kind of weight. I wish I could push a button and go to 3.73 axle for empty running on highway and in cities!!
