Re: Looking to buy Excursion
Hi Brian,
One thing that many people don't realize,(and I didn't until I bought mine) is that while the '05 Excursion got the sheetmetal from the '05 Superduty, it DIDN'T get the new front suspension. The Excursion still has the OLD Superduty suspension with the solid axle with leaf springs, at least on the 4X4 models. I was looking at buying the truck in my signature, and I got underneath and looked at that suspension. I also have an '05 Superduty. Now, what is wrong with this picture? I like my Excursion, just keep in mind that the '05s don't have the coil spring suspension.
I haven't had any trouble with the transmission on the Excursion. I have on the Superduty, but it was only in the programming. I did have a puddle of transmission fluid form under the Excursion after I got it home from the dealership. I took it back and they placed a dye in the transmission fluid and didn't find anything. They suspect it was just overfilled. Go figure.
As far as the seating, it is a toss-up. If seating maximum people is a priority the bench in the way to go. I believe it is more comfortable. Mine has the four seats and I do like to be able to walk throught the middle. Those second row "Captain's Chairs" really aren't, but they aren't as bad as one might think. Another advantage of a bench is it will fold somewhat flat and give you more useable space behind the front seats for those 4X8 sheets of plywood. Ah, but you have a truck. Just my 2 cents. Craig.
