I have the "Ford" liner in mine, dealer installed, and it is also held in by the front cargo tie downs being bolted through it.
As far as the rust idea, yes it wears a few spots bare but they don't rust because it is always going to rub there and keep those spots shiny. I have other things on the truck trying to rust but not the bed.
