I replaced all the spring and shackle bushings, shocks, and cab mounts, and still had that maddening pop you described. I then read here about the fender bolts. Tightened them all up, and whaddya know, no more creaks and pops.
It's the little stuff, like this pop, loose door hinge pins, tired weatherstripping, wiggly/creaky seats, etc, that make a truck feel like an old POS. A bit of maintenance and repair goes a long way toward making the truck feel new again.
