About the trans....I know everybody says go BTS. I am sure it is a GREAT trans, but I am not going to spend that kind of dough.
Here is a copy of an email I got from RacerX a few weeks ago.
Ryan,
Here is your quote for an extreme duty rebuild and upgrade kit.
(1) 500 rwhp extreme rebuild kit with shaft kit. The kit upgrades and makes a transmission new rather than rebuilt. Full replacement parts kits replace every moving surface. Kit includes, all upgrade extreme duty
hard parts, (Armour package)
All new replacement wearable internal parts, pan and line filters, assy lube, install sheets, tech support, approximately
140 new parts in all including adding
all extra red eagle clutches in all gears. All parts needed for pump rebuild and includes a tugger shift kit. $1598.00 Shipping weight is approx 75lbs.
Adding the torque converter would be $2193 in total for 500 hp. Thanks for your inquiry and please let us know if we can help with your power play.
Unless someone advises different, this is probably the route I am going to go.
I did end up making it to the machine shop today. I had figured I was going to need 1 sleeve, but I need 3.
Here is the cost breakdown for the machine work
Clean V8 diesel block 63.70
Magnaflux and mic block 95.55
Resurface block 191.11
Bore and hone 200.14
Install cam bearings 61.48
Final clean block 127.38
Magnaflux crank 31.80
Polish crank 89.18
Mic and hone rods 63.60
R&R bushings/pin fit rods 80.00
3 sleeves 300.00
Assembly 300.00
TOTAL-1634.07
I'll buy the rebuild kit once I am sure he can use all standard bearings. It's going to go .030 over.
So I should be into a fresh forged rod shortblock for about 25-2600.
