As others have indicated, your tranny is probably dead and needs a good funeral.
You have three basic choices.
1] If you're a big gambler, then take it to a local tranny shop and hope for the best.
2] Last I heard, the Ford factory rebuilt warranty was 2 years - provided you haven't hot-rodded the engine with a chip or programmer and you haven't installed an exhaust brake, or any other reason Ford would void the warranty. So that's a good deal. You can buy the tranny and torque converter for less than $2,000, then have it installed by either a Ford dealer or almost any decent tranny shop - whoever gives you the best deal on the R&R cost. (If you go this route, be certain to replace the torque converter and the oil-to-air (OTA) tranny cooler, as well as install a Magnefine in-line tranny filter in the cooler return line - all per Ford procedures.)
3] If two years of probable worry-free tranny service is not good enough, or if you have hot-rodded the engine, then do what I did. A bulletproof BTS tranny and torque converter will cost you over $4,000, but then your tranny worries are over for a lot longer than two years. The BTS written warranty is two years, but Brian has proved he will take care of you if it dies after the two year period is up. And you will love how the BTS performs, whether unloaded, loaded, or overloaded. Stock engine, or a super-powerful hot-rodded engine, or anything in between like my mild towing tune. Brian doesn't care - he guarantees you can't break a BTS tranny. If you can't drive to Arkansas to have BTS install the new tranny and torque converter, then find a local tranny shop that will follow the BTS install procedures and do the R&R at a decent price. Maybe ask Brian if he knows of a tranny shop he will recommend in the D-FW area.

Others will argue that BTS is not the only premium-performance bulletproof 4R100 tranny available. There is also Suncoast in Florida and John Wood on the left coast and BD in northwest Washington state (and BC Canada), and maybe a coupla others. But most agree that BTS is the cream of the crop. There might even be one in the D-FW Metroplex, but I haven't heard of them if they're there.
A quick check on Suncoast indicates the total cost of tranny, torque converter and big OTA tranny cooler will be about $4,300 plus shipping and R&R. So they're about the same price as BTS.
