The C/S is a pipe dream and just in the discussion stages for fun.

We never got very involved in either of our son's training to be Naval Aviators and it's now been some years since they started, but IIRC at least or Pilot training there are two basic phases the Basic Training and the Advanced and you aren't assigned to a specific type a/c i.e. Jet/Prop/Rotor etc. until the end of Basic and they use all of what they see in Basic Training to make that decision and the slots for each are fixed. When our oldest went thru RIO now WSO for the FA-18 all this training was at Pensacola and our youngest went to Basic out in Corpus Christie and Advanced at Meridian, MS. However this info is between 5 and 10 years old.
If he does eventually get his wings, invest in the real 14Kt "Wings of Gold" and be had each inscribed with their name and a two or three word "Personal Message" and told them they must wear them and not worry about loosing them since we would be their "Wing Insurance".
