Overweight fines

I just got to thinking... What kind of fines would someone run into, say, if their state registration was for 5k (even though the truck weighs more than that EMPTY) and they were for whatever reason scaled and tipped them at 10k GVW (the actual GVWR)? I understand it's probably going to be different in each state, but just generally speaking...Don't know how the Motor Vehicle Commission can actually let someone get away with registering a vehicle for less than what it weighs unloaded... Looks like I've got some paperwork to do
