I was reading another members thread on his problem description which is what prompted me to post my ordeal. Sorry for being long winded.

Here is the gist of what’s going on with my then 16 day old (Purchased April 26th) truck with 2123 miles.

On May 12th I was on my way from Dallas to Chicago and somewhere around Effingham IL my truck started to intermittently miss, lose power and what sounded like detonation which finally set a code a few miles south of Champaign. By the time I reached Champaign it was getting so bad I stopped for the night so I could take my truck into the dealer to be looked at. After running a quick scan the tech said that injector #4 was bad and compression was down 11%...not good.

Several days went by with no ETA on repairs so I rented an Explorer one-way and went back home. My truck is still in Champaign and after 23 days (June 5th) here is where Ford is at;
1. Replaced the #4 injector, took for a road test and the first time the tech got on it the engine started running bad again.
2. Drained oil and found metal shavings…
3. Checked cylinders with a boroscope (SP?), #4 & #6 pistons have damage (I assume the heads are damaged as well).
4. At least 1 glow plug is damaged.
5. Ford tech-line is making the tech pull the heads to inspect the cylinder wall for damage, they suggested the possibility of doing a rebuild.

The service guys at Champaign Ford have been doing everything they can to get Ford to send a complete engine assembly so they can just replace it but Ford is making them jump through all these hoops instead…

I have already opened up a case with Ford customer relation’s asking for a replacement since my truck was just over 2 weeks and 2100 miles before the engine expired. I have also contacted an attorney to discuss making Ford replace it under the Texas lemon law, I hope to not have to go down that path though.

What really sucks is my first payment is coming up in a few days and Ford has had it longer than I have, they also haven’t reimbursed me for the rental and hotel expenses yet…

Thanks for reading,
-Allen
A clear, non-emotional, articulate write up for a change. Sorry that you've had a problem, a big problem, and I hope your approach helps you reach a favorable resolution.

I would be very surprised if they rebuild or buy the truck back. Due to labor charges, I'm guessing the most likely outcome will be to put a new motor in it. Please keep the board posted on the progress/outcome and good luck.
