That is stage 1. But you can use 1st if you shift manually.

That happened to me only once. 24,000 combined up a 12% grade. I got stuck behind a bus, and the slower speed really made the trans heat up (almost no airflow at 20 mph). I also did not think to remove my grill insert before starting the climb, and that insert blocked about 50% of the air.
