I drove about 300 miles from from Wichita Falls to Midland yesterday, cruising at 74 MPH in the car. On I-20 west of Abilene a 2008 F-350 SRW PSD dragging a tall/long/heavy fifth-wheel RV passed me. He was doing about 82. I followed him for a few miles, allowing him to be the rabbit to flush out any Smokies. I'll guarantee he was getting a lot less than 10 MPG. Not because his tow vehicle was a 6.4L diesel, but because he was begging for extremely poor fuel mileage by going that fast dragging a wind-grabbing tall-profile trailer.
So when folks complain about poor fuel mileage, I'll think of that guy. Sure, mine will get lousy mileage too if I drag a tall-profile 5er at over 80 MPH into a headwind!
