A dirty air filter removes more dirt (higher percentage) from intake air than a clean filter....trade-off is slightly higher restriction. But the only way You'd EVER notice that restriction is if You work the engine @ 100% of it's HP potential. I do change engine oil & filter every 3000 miles, and run oil analysis every 10,000 miles but run fuel & air filters substantially longer than the manual states. My truck runs 99+% of the time on highways, and I'm REALLY fussy about where I buy my fuel. I think the service I've gotten from My old PSD over the last 12 yrs & 296,000 miles shows My maintenance plan hasn't been too bad. The whole reason I ordered My truck out special 12-1/2 yrs ago was to reduce "Cost of operation per mile" It has exceeded My expectations.
