Larry: We had the same problem. After driving our 2008 Super Duty, with our Fifth-wheel hookup working for a year, the warning came on. We went to Ford...They said: after not even looking at the trailer plug: The connections for your 5th wheel hookup are wrong. They HAVE to be soldered together, not crimp and shrink-wrapped. So we went back to the place that wired the 5th wheel. They pulled the connections. They were perfect. No wet connections, no dirt even on the connections. We do not drive the truck in the winter at all. They did re-do them, the light still went on. They finally cut the wires totally. They pulled the Ford plug out, found out the original trailer plug (from FORD) was CORRODED. Went back to Ford and they did replace the plug, but did not re-wire anything. We had to go back to the RV place, they soldered the connections, this time, however, we have called about 5 shops and NONE of them solder the connections. FORD said THEY MUST BE SOLDERED. That they received a service bulletin on it about a year ago, however, they can't supply us with a copy of the bulletin. When I called another Ford dealer, I was told it was "a matter of preference." So...there you have it. When the warning came on, we weren't towing either...makes no sense to us. Now we don't know who is going to pay the RV place for all their wiring and re-wiring. Probably us, but I'm hoping FORD! If they had checked the plug in the first place, a lot of work could have been saved. Pull the back off your Ford plug out and check to see if it is green!
