I've seen quite a few 08 new F250-F350 Super Duty's locally for under $35k. If you don't have to have the navigator system, seat vibrator, and $2000 sound system, you can probably find you a new Super Duty with the the 6.4 or V-10 that will do the trick. If you're not towing big time, you might even find one with the 3.55 rear end, which will give you 1 or 2 mpg better than the 3.73.
If you plan on keeping it for over 150k miles, then I would probably lean towards the diesel. On the other hand, gas engines have greatly improved the past few years, and gas is cheaper.

just my .02 cents worth

on edit: I am curious that you're looking for a 1 ton truck, yet you plan on putting up to 4200 pounds in the bed.
'The body weights 1700LBS the tools will probally be about 2000-2500lbs.'
You might be entering F350 dually or F450 territory to carry that load in the bed.
