A new TSB was issued for this. Basically, it says it is normal and due to an engine oil pulsation: "This noise is caused by the relationship between engine block, crankshaft journals, bearing inserts and oil viscosity / film. This relationship allows a pulsation that resonates through the cylinder block and is heard as a metallic ticking noise. This condition is present on all diesel engines."
It also states that it was typically present in previous engines, but was masked by engine noise. According to the TSB, vehicle testing and engine teardowns have confirmed that it does not affect long term reliability.
