I don't have the answer if what you are doing will hurt your engine or not, because I'm not sure what you are doing exactly! I think you sig says you have a 7.3 and I don't know much about them at all.

As for the parts that I used, I bought a new oil filler spout from the dealer (my mechanic gave me one to practice on also) and I made the aluminum piece on a lathe in my garage.

I think that you could drill and tap the plastic filler spout with a 1/4" pipe thread if your hose doesn't have much pressure. The fittings I used were 1/4".
