95 PSD chugs on startup and low on power

Hello,

I am new to the PSD world and seem to be having some troubles with my truck. The truck (F250 Extended Cab auto trans) has 173,000 Miles and is completely stock. I have owned it about a year and a half. Within the past year I have replaced the fuel filter, CPS, glow plug relay, valve cover gaskets, glow plugs, and the alternator.

Everytime I start the truck it chugs for about 15 seconds and smooths out. It does this when its cold, hot, or been driving all day exc.

It also seems to be down on power. I did not notice the change overnight so it seems to have been gradual. The most I ever pull with this is 1 car on a 18 ft trailer. On the flat highway I have troubles getting the truck to go over 60 unless I go down a hill. there seems to be no speed or RPM increase from half throttle to full thottle.

I get an average of 14 MPG when towing this load.

When the truck is empty and I am just driving it seems to lack power over half throttle in any gear.

A friend of mine has the same truck with nearly the same miles and I can tell a big difference between his truck and mine. he has the same gear ratio, same auto trans and his pulls much better. His turbo sounds much louder than mine as well. I am not sure how much you should hear them but you can hear his much more than mine.

So... Where should I start? What should I check out first? I did some searching on the forums and there seems to be several things that could cause this so I am somewhat lost on what to do first.

I really appreciate the help and always enjoy reading the forums.
