I recall reading that each of the big three has different strategies for emissions control (In addition to the dpf) and some of them don't require the idle shutdown feature. The web site where it was explained was part of a Ford site dealing with the F-650/750 series and the optional Cummins/Caterpillar engines. Unfortunately, the strategy used in the Powerstroke does require the shutdown feature as part of the emissions package. I'd bet it will be required on all of the buses and trucks powered by DT series engines as well.
