Brake Caliper Slide Shims
I've noticed that since I replaced my front brake calipers with OEM Ford/Motorcraft remanufactured units a few years ago, I've been getting a clunk noise from the passenger side of the truck when the suspension cycles. I've examined that side of the truck and determined that there's a fair amount of slop (~1/16") between the caliper slides and caliper mounting bracket slides, causing the clunk. So, I'm guessing Ford's caliper reman contractor didn't check the dimensional specs of the caliper they remanned, and I ended up with the result.
I've heard that there's shims available in the aftermarket to correct this situation, but I haven't had any luck finding them. So, if anyone has any recommended part numbers or suppliers for the shims, please let me know.
Keep in mind that my truck is a 94, so its calipers use the older split steel and rubber slide pins; not the bolt, sleve, and boot type on the 95-up PSDs.
Thanks,
K.N.
