'05 F350 Overheats

Hello all,

I am new here and hope someone can help me out. I just purchases an '05 F350. I thought I checked everything out really well before buying it but now I am having a problem. I was hauling a horse trailer up an incline with out any problems. I was going around 70 mph when all of a sudden I lost most of the power, the check engine light came on, and the engine started overheating. I talked to the dealer that sold this truck to me and he said it sounded like the thermostat. He said that the thermostat has a fail safe that shuts power off to the engine when it overheats and that I would just need to replace the thermostat. I have heard alot of bad things about this diesel engine but needed to upgrade so I took a chance. Does this sound like a possible quick fix or am I into an expensive fix?

Thanks for the help.
