They are pretty robust. On a VT 365 Actually it is a combination Powersteering and Fuel pump in tandem as one.I have NOT seen many fail.What does happen though is the Idler gear in the rear geartrain that runs off the Crank cluster gear has had issues with its bearing failing and hence Fuel pump issues.This small gear has alot of stress on it driving that pump assy.I have done alot of Soft gear recalls on 04's but the design has been revised and a 05 "should" have a new style gear in it,If they are Not seeing any fuelpressure with a New Pump on it,I would pull the pump and Look in at the Idler gear if there is obvious gear damage or you can feel excess slop or play then I would say that is the issue.I have never seen one come apart they usually will whine like hell though when the engine is running.I am betting STC or Branchtube.
