Unless the stumps are absolutely HUGE you ought to be able to move them with the skid whether they break or not. This past summer I dug out a maple stump for a client that the trunk was at least 2 1/2' in diameter that I was able to pick up and move with my Cat 248 skid. If you can't pick it up you ought to at least be able to shove it around, if that's not an option if you chain it up in the bucket you can lift an item that is way beyond the machine's rated capacity just a few inches.
