That would be your vacuum pump. You need that for your power brake assist (and your heater vent controls, but that's of secondary importance). Most any mass-market autoparts store should have it in stock.
Also, when you go to replace it, you will find that you can't remove the mounting bolts all the way from the pump while the pulley is still on the shaft. That's no problem, just leave the bolts with the pump and then transfer them, along with the pulley, to the new pump while you're at the autoparts store (they should have the proper installer tool on-hand).
