It is the vacum pump as mentioned above. The pulley is pressed on and off. Harbor freight makes a pulley puller/installation kit for about $15.00 good for the P/S pulley and the vacum pump pulley. Makes the job sooo much easier. Just did a vacum pump on an '03 Duramax last week.
