Seems to me the $1000
or more is right. At those averages, it would need to be $6k for those with families and $2.4k for individuals. Admittedly, the averages may be better than what "basic medical coverage" ends up being defined as, but $1,000 a year is very very cheap for medical insurance. I can't believe they would define basic health insurance as anything that limited.
