Ford states change fuel filters every 15k. They are beginning to ask for the records at some dealerships and under certain circimstances. The 10k is their service interval for what they call severe service (towing, biodiesel, extensive idling, extensive off-road driving, etc). The injectors are quickly damaged at low fuel pressures (the minimum pressure is 45 psig). The 10k fuel filter interval is certainly not mandatory, but if you do not have gauges and if you sometimes have to buy fuel from small-volume stations - the 10k interval is wise.
