Well the 5.4 is good but mileage will kill you the MPG will make up for the cost difference in the long run. A friend of mine had a 5.4 in a truck and his average was about 12-15 mpg. I have a 7.3 and average about 15-18 mpg and still have the ability to haul a lot of weight. 7.3 is the way to go just my 2 cents
