Like Mark said - the E4OD will operate without a PCM, but it will enter FMEM state, aka limp-home mode - if trans was still in the truck putting the shifter manually in 1st or 2nd position will give you 2nd gear, and putting the shifter in D will give you 4th with an unlocked converter.
