Did you read the Thomas Jefferson quote? It applies very well to this discussion.
LIABILITY insurance is to help you repay for injuries/losses you cause another.
If you are financing a car, then you must purchase insurance to, again, repay for losses to another (the bank, car dealer, etc) that you cause by damaging the car, which is owned by
them, not you. When you own the car free and clear, you are no longer required to insure that vehicle from loss.
In my state, drivers are not even required to get liability insurance if they establish that they have the financial resources to cover any losses they cause another.
In NV, is "mandatory car insurance" required even if you have decided to not use a car?
The answer, of course, is no. It is only required for those that have chosen to undertake an activity that can cause great harm to others. A proper role of government is to limit the harm one citizen can cause another.
Why should I not be free to decide I don't want medical insurance? Let me make my own decisions, and suffer the consequences of same.
I do not want anybody else forcing their will on me RE decisions that affect only me. These days, the terms "freedom" and "liberty" mean very little if we are denied the right to make even these most basic, very personal decisions.
We are becoming a country of grown up children who must be watched over by a big Nanny Government. Like children, we expect somebody else to take care of our needs.
Like children, we are denied many freedoms by our caretakers.
